A Legal Fight for Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao

Manny Pacquiao

The next fight for Manny Pacquiao looks like it will be a legal fight and not in a boxing ring. Pacquiao was named in a class-action lawsuit claiming the boxer and his team failed to disclose a shoulder injury to the Nevada Boxing Commission prior to his fight on May 2nd with Floyd Mayweather. The suit is seeking $5M in damages.

Two men filed the suit on behalf of all persons who purchased tickets, purchased the pay per view event or who wagered money on the event,” and claims damages for those who “were victimized by Defendants’ failure to disclose and to cover up the injuries of Defendant Pacquiao.”

This suit may not be immediately dismissed as frivolous. In fact, given the amount of money Pacquiao has, this might be a more interesting fight that the bout with Mayweather. The big question is: Did the Pacquiao camp know about the injury before the fight?

According to reports, the lawsuit comes on the heels of a Monday report by the Associated Press that said Francisco Aguilar, chairman of the Nevada Athletic Commission, was investigating why Pacquiao checked “no” when asked to disclose if he was injured prior to the fight. Michael Koncz, an adviser to Pacquiao, later shouldered the blame saying, “I checked it. It was just an inadvertent mistake.”

Pacquiao announced after the Mayweather fight that he will have surgery on the shoulder to repair the injury.

Bullock’s Stalker pleads Not Guilty

The man arrested inside Sandra Bullock’s home pleaded not guilty to stalking the Oscar-winning actress.

Joshua James Corbett entered to plea today in a Los Angeles court. Police arrested the 39-year-old last June and hit him with felony counts of residential burglary, stalking and possession of a machine gun after he was found trespassing on Bullock’s property.

The judge set a tentative trial date of July 6. If convicted, Corbett could face up to 12 years in prison.

It’s clear that Corbett needs the services of a great criminal defense attorney. Is it okay to shamelessly plug myself? Too late! I just did!
